Migration between WordPress Sites

Migration between WordPress Sites

As a website owner, it may be necessary to migrate your WordPress site from one hosting provider to another. WordPress sites have many components to them including pages, posts, themes, plugins, images, and more importantly the database that supports the WordPress Site.

There are various tools that you can use to migrate your sites. Most of these tools are plugins that you install on your existing and new WordPress sites. You export in the existing site and then import in the new site. Here are some tools out there:

At Zee Digital Web Hosting, there isn’t a specific tool we endorse for migrating a WordPress site. However, one tool we’ve used that worked for us is the All-in-One WP Migration tool. Recently, we had to change to migrate our Blog site, we tested multiple tools and All-in-One WP Migration worked for us.

In order to use, install the plugin in your existing site and then export your site.

Then in your new site, you can import the site.

For our migrated site, we did Export it as a file. There are multiple options for exporting and importing. Using cloud providers may also come with charges for storage. Since, our site was fairly small, it was possible to do this. Keep in mind, that the default plugin allows for import of 512MB. WordPress sites that have no media (e.g. images, video) will may be under this import limit however, others will be above. The video below indicates how to export and import for large file sizes.

It is suggested you multiple tools to export from your existing site as a contingency and not rely on one particular tool. Not all migration tools will work for all sites. Also, do not tamper with the backup file as any changes to the integrity of the export may compromise the import process.

In closing, reach out to Zee Digital and we can help with the process.
