Backing up your site is crucial to keeping your data safe. There are various ways to backup data. If you are using your site simply for WordPress, then plugins to backup your site such as Backup Bliss will work fine. You may opt for a more powerful tool such as Jetpack with its VaultPress functionality.
However, if you go beyond WordPress and what to backup your entire infrastructure, we have three tools that will help you. Please keep in mind that if you do change your web hosting company in the future, these tools may not be available with the new provider. It is always prudent to ensure the backup files are not locked into a format that is unreadable. Most of the backup tools out there will keep the files in their native file formats and export MySQL databases in a .sql file format so it can be ingested in the future.
Jetbackup
This tool is built-in to the ZEE DIGITAL Web Hosting CPANEL account. The tool provides a twice daily backup of your entire site (Home Directory, databases). Accessing the Jetbackup is via the CPANEL dashboard.
Within Jetbackup, you will find a dashboard that shows you general data about your backup. Note that the backups are offsite.
Jetbackup does a backup of your entire site twice a day and that is a preset frequency that cannot be adjusted. When you click on the Restore & Download option, you will see the twice a day backups that have been generated.
In case you want to restore your entire site, click the restore point you want to restore, and then click on on the Restore button. The button is at the button of the Restore & Download page screen.
Backup
This is a simple too that will allow you to backup parts of your site. Simple access via CPANEL.
You have the option of backing up the entire site or parts of your site (Home Directory, Database, Email Forwarders). You can also restore parts of your site but not your entire site.
Backup Wizard
The Backup Wizard is similar to the Backup tool. Access via CPANEL as well.
The Backup Wizard allows restoration of your entire site.
With the 3 backup tools, there various options you can use to ensure you have a backup strategy to meet your needs. It is recommended that every so often, you may want to download a full backup of your site via Jetbackup or Backup Wizard.
